Qualifications  8 O levels, 3 A levels: English, Art, History of Art

1975-1976   Foundation Studies, Central School of Art and Design, London

1976-1979   Kingston Polytechnic School of Graphic Design, Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey 

Qualifications  Upper Second Class BA Honours Degree Graphic Design and a First Class Commendation for my thesis for the History of Art and Design course


Employment

1979-1981   Oxford University Press   Designer

Designed illustrated textbooks for Junior and Secondary schools.


1981-1983   The Museum of London   Designer

Worked on a wide range of publicity material, small and large-scale exhibitions and collection publications.


1983-1989   The John Lewis Partnership  Senior Designer

Worked on packaging and general print for the John Lewis department stores and Waitrose food shops. 


1989-1991   Quarto Publishing plc  Assistant Art Director

Responsibilities included commissioning design, illustration, photography and supervising the production of a wide range of fully illustrated, international titles.


1991-1997   Dorling Kindersley Publishing plc   Design Manager  Adult Jackets

Managing a team of five designers and one editor. Responsibilities included conceptualising and designing the season’s book jackets, chairing briefing and progress meetings with the Directors and liaising closely with the production teams. 


1997- present  Freelance

Clients include Boosey & Hawkes Publishing, British Museum Publications, Dorling Kindersley, Faber Music, Guild Of Master Craftsmen Publications, I B Tauris, Mitchell Beazley, Music Sales, National Gallery Publications, Omnibus Press, Quarto Publishing, Quintet Publishing, Schott Music Publishing. 

My freelance projects include: On Reflection the accompanying book for Jonathan Miller’s National Gallery exhibition in 1999, Encounters the accompanying book to the National Gallery Millennium exhibition in 2000 and award-winning music tutorial books and biographies for Music Sales and Omnibus Press. More recently I designed a much-acclaimed Masterclass series involving the pianist LangLang for Faber Music.
